Introduction

This manual explains every tool available at clipboardocr.com — what each one does, and how to get the most out of it. clipboardocr.com is a family of free, browser-based OCR tools built around one idea: extract text from an image, then do something useful with it — convert it, translate it, search it, or share it — without creating an account.

The sections below cover each tool in detail, starting with the basics that apply to all of them.

🚀

Getting started

BC Clipboard OCR works directly in your browser — no registration, no installation required. The basic workflow is: load an image → extract the text → apply conversions → copy to clipboard.

🌓 Dark / Light mode

Toggle between dark and light themes using the button in the top-right corner of the header. Your preference is saved locally.

🌐 Language

The interface supports multiple languages. Use the language selector in the header — the tool auto-detects your browser language on first visit.

📱 PC and mobile

Fully responsive. Add it to your favourites or install it as a PWA app: it opens in your default browser and helps you work comfortably. On mobile you get an extra Camera button to extract text directly without saving the photo first. Share it quickly by copying it, by email, or via the messaging app you use.

📲 Install as app (PWA)

BC Clipboard OCR is a Progressive Web App. Add it to your home screen or desktop from your browser’s menu for instant access.

Loading an image

There are four ways to get an image into the tool:

⚠️ File size limit: Images larger than 10 MB are not accepted. Resize or compress before uploading if needed.

Two-step extraction

The main tool and Perseus use a two-step process to balance speed, privacy and accuracy:

Step 1
Local OCR — Tesseract
Processed entirely in your browser. No image data leaves your device during this step.
→
Step 2 (if needed)
AI extraction — Anthropic
If the local result is unsatisfactory or confidence is too low, the image is sent to the Anthropic API for a more accurate pass.
💡 If the local extraction looks wrong, click “Improve text extraction” below the result to trigger the AI pass manually. The extracted text is always editable in the output panel.
🔒 Confidential mode uses Step 1 only — no image data leaves your device under any circumstances. The AI second pass is intentionally disabled.
📋

BC Clipboard OCR — Main tool

The main tool extracts text from any image and gives you a full suite of conversion and processing options — all in your browser, all in one step.

BC Clipboard OCR main interface overview
Main tool interface

🔍 Search & Multi-search

Search for any word or phrase — all matches highlight instantly. Multi-search finds several terms at once, each in a different colour. Ideal for ingredients, allergens, or keywords in a list.

🔄 Replace

Find any word or phrase and replace it with another. Case-insensitive — detects lowercase, Title Case and UPPERCASE simultaneously. Triggers extraction automatically if no text has been extracted yet. OCR extraction isn't perfect, but the mistakes it makes tend to repeat: with Replace you can fix a known error before you even extract the image, or just as easily afterwards, directly on the extracted text.

📅 Date format conversion

Automatically detects and converts dates to your preferred format: DD/MM/YYYY, YYYY-MM-DD, YYYYMMDD and more.

💱 Amount & conversion factor

Reformats numeric values with your chosen separators. Apply a factor to multiply all amounts — useful for currencies (€/$ 1.18), weights (kg/lb 2.205), or distances (km/mi 1.609).

🔠 Uppercase

Converts the entire extracted text to uppercase with a single click.

🤖 Improve extraction

If the local OCR is not satisfactory, click Improve text extraction to send the image to the Anthropic AI API for a more accurate second pass.

Confidential mode

For professionals and organisations working with sensitive documents. The image never leaves your device — text extraction happens entirely in your browser, with no data sent to any server or API, ever.

BC Clipboard OCR Confidential mode — Extract C1, C2, C3, C4 extraction modes
Confidential mode — header and extraction panel

🖥️ 100% local processing

The image is processed entirely inside your browser using Tesseract. Nothing is uploaded, transmitted, or logged.

🚫 No API, no external servers

No connection to Anthropic or any third-party service. The AI second-pass is intentionally disabled — the absence of a fallback is the confidentiality guarantee.

🛠️ Full conversion toolset

All the same tools as the main OCR: date format, amount formatting, conversion factor, search, replace, and uppercase — all running locally.

📄 Ideal for sensitive documents

Contracts, invoices, medical records, legal documents, HR files — anything subject to confidentiality obligations or corporate IT policies.

Perseus — Quick OCR

A streamlined, distraction-free version of the tool built for speed. Load, extract, convert and copy in seconds.

Perseus OCR interface
Perseus — quick OCR interface

⚡ Instant extraction

Optimised for fast OCR. The same two-step process (Tesseract → AI fallback) applies, so accuracy is not compromised.

📷 Camera support

On mobile, capture text directly with your camera — no need to save the photo first. OCR reads text more accurately in portrait (vertical) orientation, so if your photo comes out tilted, use the orientation wheel next to the camera button to straighten it before extracting.

🔍 Search, replace & uppercase

Single and multi-search, replace, and uppercase conversion. The extracted text is editable directly in the output panel.

📤 Share in one tap

Send the extracted text instantly via WhatsApp, Microsoft Teams, or email — without leaving the tool.

📊 Table mode

Extract a table straight from a photo or screenshot into an editable grid, with optional row/column hints for the AI. Copy it or download it as a CSV file ready for a spreadsheet. Table mode always uses AI to read the table's structure, so the image is sent to Anthropic's API every time.

📅 Date & amount format conversion

Pick the date format and the number format you need in the options panel — it's applied automatically the moment the text is extracted, no manual re-run needed.

💡 Perseus includes date and amount format conversion, but not the conversion factor panel, currency exchange, unit conversion or allergen detection. If you need those, use the full tool or the other specialised pages, one click away in the menu.

Milcheaufsnutgluten

A specialised tool for detecting allergens and intolerances in product labels. Photograph, paste, or scan a barcode — OCR extracts the text and each allergen is highlighted in its own identifying colour. The allergen list also works as a searchable, exportable repository with translations in 8 languages.

Milcheaufsnutgluten interface
Milcheaufsnutgluten — label reader with language selector and barcode input

🏷️ 14 mandatory allergens + extras

All 14 allergens with mandatory declaration under EU Regulation 1169/2011, plus latex, nickel, beta-lactam antibiotics, NSAIDs, sunflower, and alcohol. Enable, disable, or add custom allergens — your selection is saved locally on your device.

🤖 OCR + AI + barcode

Local Tesseract extraction, cross-validated with the Anthropic AI API, plus barcode lookup via Open Food Facts (EAN/UPC). Three complementary data sources.

🌍 8 detection languages

Searches allergen keywords in the label’s language: Spanish, English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Catalan or Dutch. Switch detection language before scanning to avoid false positives.

✅ “Free from” detection

If the label says “gluten-free”, “sin gluten”, “sans gluten” or equivalents in the 8 languages, the tool recognises the negation and reports ✅ GLUTEN FREE rather than a positive detection.

📤 Export options

Share the full text or allergen summary via WhatsApp, Teams, or email. Also export the highlighted image as PNG — useful for kitchen staff or food safety records.

🎨 Colour-coded highlights

Each allergen group has its own highlight colour. Negated allergens (declared free) appear with a green strikethrough, clearly distinguishable from positive detections.

🚫 Mark as false positive

If a detection doesn’t apply to you, mark it disabled — it stays off for that allergen going forward, tracked by concept rather than the literal word, so it stays disabled even if you switch the label’s language.

⚠️ Sensitisation cofactors

A reference section on six factors — exercise, NSAIDs, alcohol, stress, infection and hormonal changes — that can trigger or worsen a reaction in LTP, peanut, tree nut, shellfish and wheat-related allergies, even when the food alone is normally tolerated.

💊 Medical & medication locator

Two buttons open Google Maps to the nearest pharmacy or medical centre, using your device’s location (with explicit consent) or a postal code you type in instead. Location is never stored or sent to any server — it's only used to open the map. Not for emergencies: call your local emergency number instead.

⚠️ Milcheaufsnutgluten is a decision-support tool, not a certified food safety system. Always verify allergen information against the original product label. The detection language must match the label language to avoid false negatives.

Konvorcet — Unit Conversion

A specialised tool for converting distance, area, weight, volume and temperature values found in images — travel itineraries, recipes, technical specs, shipping labels. Photograph, paste, or upload the image; OCR extracts the text and applies the conversion, either replacing each value or adding the converted amount in parentheses right next to it. Below the extraction tool you'll also find a free any-to-any unit converter, a price-per-unit calculator and a measurement and price comparator.

📏 Five categories

Distance, area, weight, volume and temperature, each with its own set of common unit pairs (miles↔kilometres, acres↔hectares, pounds↔kilograms, gallons↔litres, °F↔°C, and more).

🔄 Replace or add in parentheses

Choose whether the converted value replaces the original number, or is added next to it in parentheses so both stay visible.

🔢 Simple conversion

Convert a single value on the spot, without extracting anything from an image — useful for a quick one-off conversion.

🔍 Search & Replace

The same search, multi-search and find-and-replace tools available in the main tool, applied to the extracted text.

⚖️ Comparator

Compare up to four products or measurements side by side — even different pack sizes or units — and see which one is the better deal per unit. Add a price to each one you want to compare on cost. Each product's name is editable, and the ranked results can be copied or exported as a text summary.

Croesus Rates — Currency & Exchange Rate Tools

A specialised tool for converting currency values found in images — price tags, menus, receipts, invoices from abroad — using the European Central Bank's daily reference rate. Beyond the image-based conversion, it also includes a standalone currency converter, a historical reference date picker, an exchange rate difference calculator, and a bulk historical rate export — each with its own independent currency pair.

Croesus Rates extraction and conversion panel

📅 Latest day or a past date

Uncheck “Latest day” to use the European Central Bank's official reference rate for a specific past date instead of today's (up to 5 years back). If that date has no published rate (weekend or holiday), the last available business day's rate is used instead.

🔢 Independent simple conversion

A separate quick-convert field for a single value, using the same European Central Bank reference rate, with its own currency pair and its own reference date — entirely independent of the extraction panel above.

📊 Exchange rate difference calculator

Enter an amount, a currency pair and two dates (start and end) to see how much that amount would be worth on each date according to the European Central Bank's reference rate, and the difference between the two results.

📁 Historical exchange rate export

Pick a currency pair and a date range to download a plain text file with the European Central Bank's official reference rate for one line per business day — date, both currency codes and the rate in both directions — ready to open in a spreadsheet.

⚠️ Rates are the European Central Bank's daily reference rate (published once per business day, around 16:00 CET) — not a live market rate. They are meant for information purposes only; for any financial decision, consult your bank or the relevant central bank first. Historical queries (reference date, difference calculator, export) are limited to 5 years back, and non-business days (weekends and bank holidays) have no published rate.
