🔧 Image configuration
Use these tools after loading an image to improve extraction quality before running the OCR.
Text orientation
Rotate the wheel to match the direction your text is pointing. The letter A shows the current orientation. Available once an image is loaded.
Focus area
Draw a rectangle over the text area you want to extract. The rest of the image will be ignored, improving accuracy when only part of the image contains relevant text.

Copy it or download it as a CSV file ready for a spreadsheet. Table mode always uses AI to read the table's structure, so the image is sent to Anthropic's API every time — see Anthropic's Usage Policy.
- Reading optimisation language: Choose the language of the text in the image (16 options, including Simplified and Traditional Chinese) and local recognition uses that language's model plus English — essential for scripts such as Japanese, Russian or Arabic. «None» keeps the default languages, and the choice resets on each visit.
- Join lines: After extracting, press «Join lines» to merge the lines the image had split into flowing paragraphs, keeping bullet points and numbered lists, and rejoining words hyphenated at the end of a line. Press «Original text» to undo.
⚡ Speed tips for Perseus
Perseus is built for speed. These browser and PC shortcuts make it even faster.
- Alt+Tab — switch instantly between the source image and Perseus without minimizing anything.
- Ctrl+V — paste a screenshot straight from the clipboard, no need to save the file first.
- Win+Shift+S (Windows) / Cmd+Shift+4 (Mac) — capture only the area with text before pasting, so extraction is faster and more accurate.
- Ctrl+P → Save as PDF — if the text is on a webpage, printing to PDF first is often faster than taking a screenshot.
- Ctrl+F — once you've copied the extracted text into a document, use your browser or editor's search to jump straight to a word.
- Drag & drop — drop the image file directly from your file explorer onto the upload area, skipping the "Upload file" dialog.
- Double-click a word — in the extracted text, double-click to select just that word instead of the whole block.
- Win+V — Windows clipboard history lets you recover a previously copied image or text if you're extracting from several sources in a row.
- Ctrl+Shift+V — paste extracted text as plain text into Word, email or any app, so it doesn't carry over odd formatting from the source.
- Copy image on mobile — press and hold a photo to copy it, then use "Paste from clipboard" in Perseus instead of saving it to your gallery first.
- Reload & retry — if a Replace doesn't give the result you wanted, re-extracting is usually faster than fixing the text by hand.
